You are confronted with a difficult decision. You want your child to get the best possible end of school exam results. The primary school´s recommendations, information you gathered about secondary schools, the opinions you heard about schools in general from neighbours and other people you know has all to be taken into consideration, as well as your child´s own wishes of course. Trying to weigh up all these aspects isn’t  easy at all and can easily lead to confusion and doesn’t necessarily help you to reach the right decision.

The staff of the Maria Sibylla Merian Comprehensive School situated in Lohackerstraße 15, 44867 Bochum, will within this prospectus try to help you reach the right decision.In  gathering all the information together for this we took the questions, fears, wishes and also disappointments into consideration of the parents whose children are presently attending the Maria Sybilla Merian Gesamtschule. You will find within this prospectus an overview to help you to get to know our school better.

The Maria Sibylla Merian Comprehensive has recently expanded in order to accomodate all year groups now including a Sixth Form which leads up to the Abitur exam.Two years ago our first Abitur group successfully passed their final Abitur exams. This year will also see a large number of pupils being put through their Abitur exams. The Sixth Form was able to offer further education to up to a third of year 10, the other two thirds successfully finished off their education by successfully completing Year 10.

Thanks to new buildings and renovations throughout the year, we have been able to adapt our buildings to meet the demands of all day school. The provision of specially adapted rooms allows modern science, design technology , information technology and creative arts to take place. Each year group has it’s own teaching area. The dining hall, library, Café International, disco and table tennis room and last but not least the Street-Ball area are the meeting places outside of lesson time.

At the end of last year Maria Sibylla Merian Comprehensive School celebrated its 10^th birthday. In June 1998 we had a programme of celebrations planned by a committee in which pupils, parents, and teachers alike were represented.
