II. Ten questions parents might ask themselves

1. Will my child be able to cope with such a huge school?

Your child will be in a class with two teachers. During the following few years your child will be taught by the same team of teachers. The pupils themselves decide upon the layout of their own classroom and this room will remain familiar to them for a number of years. This means that this huge school is divided into many small parts in which the children feel comfortable.

2. Will my child be able to cope with a long school day?

A schoolday consists of two hour lesson slots followed by a break. In the early years the day has a gentle start with class time. The two hour lesson is followed by playtime. There are then two more lessons followed by an hour long lunch break. In the afternoon there are either three more lessons with a break between each or project based activity clubs.

At first it may be hard for children to get through the long school day but this in most cases will only be a short term problem and most of the children soon see just how fast the day can go. School does not finish at 4pm every day though, there are no lessons on Tuesday and Friday afternoons to allow time for staff meetings to take place. Activity club time is on Wednesday afternoons.

3. Does my child have to do homework ?

In the 5th and 6th year the pupils do not normally do any homework apart from necessary vocabulary learning exercises for example. This work however does not need to be done at home however as there is time available for this during class time. From year 7 upwards, homework will be set to be completed outside of school hours but afternoon lessons will always be taken into consideration. For homework difficulties that might arise there will always be time to ask for help during class time so the pupils will not have to struggle by themselves.
